Our History

The Government College Umuahia Old Boys Association (GCUOBA)UK & IRELAND was founded in 2024 with the vision of fostering a strong sense of community among the alumni of Government College Umuahia. Over the years, our association has grown significantly, becoming a vital part of our alumni’s lives and continuing to support our alma mater.

Our Mission

Our mission is to maintain a lifelong connection between the alumni and the school, providing a platform for networking, professional development, and community service. We strive to support the current students through scholarships, mentorship programs, and various initiatives aimed at enhancing the educational experience at Government College Umuahia.

Our Vision

Our vision is to build a legacy of unity, excellence, and support, fostering lifelong connections among alumni and empowering future leaders. We aim to create a strong, inclusive community that promotes personal growth, professional success, and continuous engagement.

Aims and Objectives

* To contribute to the restoration of Government Umuahia, Abia State in Nigeria and to contribute to the education of its students.
* To bring together the past students teachers and well-wishers of GCU who reside in the UK and Ireland, to provide a forum to bring our families and friends together, and to provide a forum to strengthen our social and cultural ties.
* To establish and maintain liaison between our association and GCUOBA through its National Executive Council in Nigeria and to share best practices aimed at providing better governance and improving the lives of young students.
* To work towards improving the standard of education through supporting the teaching of the liberal arts and sciences.
* To establish closer ties and cooperation with GCU Old Boys Associations in other countries.
* To organise fund raising activities and collect donations from members and well-wishers towards the development of GCU and its students.
* To organise cultural, sports and other events through social gatherings and working groups,without prejudice to the values of GCU and the association.
* To conduct fundraisers for specific projects such as rebuilding dilapidated buildings and equipping the school(list is not exhaustive)
* To raise funds to assist identified victims of domestic violence, FGM and natural disasters in Nigeria.
* To assist members,network with members and keep updated with a rapidly evolving globe.
* To cooperate with other organisations that share the values of GCU and this organisation, as agreed by members.
* To protect,defend and promote the culture,values,traditions and welfare of the organisation and of GCU in general.
* To assist in the strenghtening of the members through information and opportunities sharing and mutual assistance.
